We Do Come With Warning Labels

BitchPh.D. has posted a very intriguing piece on the glass ceiling at home, division of housework, and so on.

I must admit that as an unmarried woman, the sheer fleeting concept of building a firm and equal family is a bit of a daunting one. We are inundated with ideas and concepts geared toward making ourselves more acceptable to the male - and I'm not simply discussing cosmetics. To be attractive, we are taught that we should agree with and pamper men, play toward their interests and not attempt to involve them in our own, we should, of course, be always in a perfect mood and yet willing to accept being blamed and called an icy bitch whenever we pluck up the courage to be ourselves.

Hail to those who buck that trend.

One thought - Requiring an equal distribution of housework is not what I would term 'being a bitch' about it. I'm non-confrontational and if married, I never intend on becoming that appalling nagging wife - I've got better things to do with my time. However, the simple fact remains that I intend to work throughout my life and, if that would ever be an issue then the relationship is clearly not headed in a healthy direction for me. Be SELFISH, women! You don't need to always have a consort, toss the neanderthal-ish ones down onto the flagstones and dare to walk alone for a period, raise your standards!

End random thoughts.

Lo! The Nerd Speaketh.

Be forewarned, there are definite spoilers within. However, I'm jumping with glee to see that they appear to have done this beloved book justice. Joy!

Also of note,

1. I've been coerced into taking belly-dancing lessons with my mother, which will undoubtedly be the source of much hilarity. (You'd think that my small bit of Spanish blood would have bequeathed some balance and natural dance ability but nay.)

2. MIRRORMASK! Showing at the UICA from December 16th - 29th!

Be well.
